Biography

Born in 1929, Clifford J. Murino earned a M.S. in Meteorology in 1954 and Ph.D. in Geology in 1957 from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. He began his career at the University of St. Louis as a professor of Meteorology and later served as the department chair. From 1969 to 1975, he held the position of Vice President for Finance and Research. While serving in this position, Murino was appointed the Physical Science Coordinator for the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Washington, D.C. where he was responsible for the NCAR program.

Dr. Murino first came to NCAR in 1975 as the Director of the Atmospheric Technology Division after serving on the UCAR Board of Trustees. He briefly left in 1980 to take the position of President of the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and returned to UCAR as the President in 1983. He retired from this position in 1988.
