SOARS / ACCESS discussion, 1996
Scope and Contents
SOARS, Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science, is an undergraduate-to-graduate bridge program designed to broaden participation in the atmospheric and related sciences. SOARS held their inaugural class in 1996-1997 with a class of 13 proteges. The program goal was to "create a direct 'pipeline' to bring ethnically diverse students into careers in the atmospheric and related sciences including engineering, mathematics and social sciences." The SOARS collection contains early records of the group, including a number of protege papers and the proposal document for the program.
