Federal Aviation Administration, 1967-1970
Scope and Contents
This file contains papers and reports covering static and dynamic tests conducted by the FAA concerning the ingestion of the GHOST electronics package into a jet engine as well as balloon ingestion. GHOST package ingestion caused no fluctuation of engine performance either of a transient or steady state nature. Balloon ingestion caused a momentary, but non-hazardous reduction of engine power. During aircraft/balloon collision tests conducted at an altitude of 1500 feet and 300 knots airspeed, the balloon was seen to shatter upon impact and did not cause any damage to aircraft surfaces. A number of photographs of the static tests are included.
