Planning Documents, 1975, 1986, 1991-1993

"THE NCAR COMPUTING FACILITY," dated October 1, 1975, has a review of 1975 status and plans through 1982. This is a nineteen page document with appendices that, among other things, contains an organization chart with a complete list of all current employees. There is some detailed budget information.

"UCAR AND NCAR STRATEGIES IN SUPERCOMPUTING," dated September 15, 1986, is a report for the UCAR director from the UCAR-NCAR Ad Hoc Committee on Strategic Planning of Computing Activities. There is a seven page executive summary listing seven specific recommendations for the succeeding decade.

"NCAR Graphics Software Development Time Estimates as of May 1991" is a timeline for software development tasks to be accomplished for NCAR Graphics 3.2, (this release came out in July, 1993). Plans for Version 4.0 are also detailed (4.0 was released in August of 1995). Version 3.2 is a follow on to the major 3.00 release in October of 1989 (NCAR/TN-341+STR). "List of possible utility enhancements" is a list prepared by Dave Kennison, dated 1991, detailing possible improvements for all the major software modules in NCAR Graphics. This list is of interest simply for detailing what the major software modules were at the time.

An e-mail from Bob Lackman (NCAR Graphics Group Head) dated December 3, 1993 outlines the product definition, development, distribution and support for NCAR Graphics.
