SLATEC, 1993
Scope and Contents
The acronym SLATEC stands for the Sandia, Los Alamos, Air Force Weapons Lab Technical Exchange Committee. This was a collaborative effort among the three labs to develop a common library of mathematical functions. The effort ultimately grew to include over a dozen other labs . In the mid-1980s there was an effort to establish a common SLATEC Graphics Library with NCAR Graphics as its original core. After several years of meetings at the various labs of site representatives this effort was abandoned, primarily due to lack of any overall authority to enforce projected projects. The folder contains a memo, dated 08-Oct-1986, describing the documentation standards effort and a memo from Bob Lackman to the SLATEC Graphics Group, dated July 23, 1993, offering NCAR Graphics free to active SLATEC members (numbering sixteen at the time). The SLATEC math library is still available from Netlib (http://www.netlib.org/).
