Biographical or Historical Information
Officially launched in 1984, the UNIDATA program was named by John A. Dutton after a workshop held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in July of 1983. The program's mission is to transform the geosciences community, research and education by providing innovative data services and tools. Funded by the National Science Foundation the program is a data faciliator, not an archive center. It has become a cornerstone resource for the atmospheric science community. Incorporating a diverse community of over 1500 academic institutions and 7000 organizations the participants of the program share the common goals of sharing data and tools to access and visualize data. Processing Information
This collection was processed in July of 2013. The original order of the files was not clearly defined so the Archivist created Series to aid access to the materials, and then organized individual folders and files in chronological order within each series. Preservation measures included removing some metal fasteners, plastic GBC binders and re-housing the collection in acid-free folders and boxes. Routine business records such as travel vouchers and duplications of reports and newsletters were discarded.
