The Design and Fabrication Services Records consists of historical UCAR institutional policy and procedure manuals, a wide range of engineering, drafting, and equipment user manuals, advisory panel meeting materials, memoranda, and engineering drawings from the 1990s.

The Design and Fabrication Services (DFS) is a division of NCAR's Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL). Through working closely with scientists and engineers, DFS both designs and creates innovative engineering solutions for the atmospheric research community.
Arrangement is by material type. Folders are arranged alphabetically within each series. This collection is housed in three record cartons, with the exception of oversized items which are housed in a separate location. This collection is arranged into the following six series: I. Advisory Panels and Reviews II. Engineering Drawings III. Manuals IV. Miscellaneous V. Planning VI. Policies and Procedures
This collection was donated by Karl Schwenz, DFS Machine Shop Supervisor in 2014. Most of the content donated belonged to DFS Manager, H. Paul Johnson.
The collection was processed in April 2015. Materials were removed from three-ring binders and rehoused in acid free folders. Metal fasteners were removed from folded oversize documents and were flattened. Plastic comb binding and plastic covers were removed from handbooks. Original order of materials were kept. Records containing budget information were discarded. Publications available in the NCAR Library were removed from the collection.
