Foothills Campus and Center Green

 Sub-Series

Biographical / Historical

This sub-series is a collection of documents generated to address the issue of a space shortfall at the Mesa Lab. The need for addition space became a priority in the late 1980’s. “A space Normative Subcommittee was formed to review the normative space allocation factors that were developed in 1976, revised in 1981, and which are currently employed by NCAR. The purpose of the review was to determine the adequacy of existing space normatives prior to defining the requirements for both the new building and the revised occupancy of the Mesa Lab.” – from Building Planning Memorandum #1, 1 November 1988 SEE :1989: Staff Notes, 24, 12.

The committees explored possible expansion at the Mesa Laboratory, new building at NIST/NOAA site, and NCAR North building (NBI) acquistions. To meet the need for additional space, UCAR purchased buildings formerly known as NBI, Inc. in north Boulder in 1990. Some of the documentation is listed as NBI, NCAR North, before being named Foothills Laboratory or FL.
