Scope and Contents

A tribute to Walter Orr Roberts was held at NCAR on May 12, 1975. The event was planned for and attended by NCAR/UCAR staff. In this recording: John Firor give the opening remarks. Walter Orr Roberts gives a talk, "A Look Forward," on his view of humanity's future, as well as his own future plans. Vin Lally announces the naming of the "Walter Orr Roberts Mesa"; Bud Hewett presents a brass plaque. Cecil Effinger, of the University of Colorado School of Music, gives remarks on the "Roberts Rondo" he composed in honor of Walter Orr Roberts. The Pablo Casals Trio performs the rondo and additional music. Trio members: Oswald Lehnert, violin, Jurgen de Lemos, cello, and Paul Parmelee, piano. (Note: This sound recording was labeled "Roberts Family Get Together." In the recording, John Firor refers to the event as the "W. O. Roberts NCAR Party"..."a family affair, planned for and attended by NCAR staff."
