BAMEX: Aircraft, personnel and media coverage, 2003-05
Scope and Contents
The Bow Echo and MCV Experiment (BAMEX) utilized a variety of mobile platforms to examine the life cycles of Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCS). Photos include three research aircraft (two equipped with dual-Doppler radar capability - NOAA P-3 and NRL P-3 - and the third with dropsondes - WMI Learjet), and the Ground-Based Observing System (GBOS) consisting of the University of Alabama-Huntsville Mobile Integrated Profiling System (MIPS), two NCAR MGLASS radiosonde systems and one UAH mobile probe vehicle. Personnel on the project include Chris Davis, Wen-Chau Lee, Morris Weisman, Stan Trier, Roger Wakimoto, and Ned Chamberlain, among many others. Personnel are engaged in meetings, presentations, and media interviews, working on equipment inside the aircraft and in a computer lab. The aircraft and personnel are at the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. Photographer is unknown.
