Photos from the High Altitude Observatory's CoMP field project at the Mauna Loa Observatory on the Big Island, Hawaii. The project goal was to deploy CoMP (Coronal Multichannel Polarimeter), which tracks magnetic activity around the entire edge of the Sun, covering much more area than previous instruments. Photos are from inside and around the observatory, and of staff engaged in their work. Steve Tomczyk and Andy Watt are among the scientists and engineers pictured.
