Scope and Contents

A collection of photos from the Ocean - Atmosphere - Sea Ice - Snowpack (OASIS) field project in which scientists from NCAR (Atmospheric Chemistry Division of ESSL, and the Technology Development Facility of EOL) participated in a major field campaign at Barrow, Alaska. Scientists from Canada, England, France, Germany, and several other U.S. institutions also participated. The photos in this collection include aerial views of glaciers, mountains, sea ice, and villages, photos of buildings and the surrounding area of Barrow, scientists at work in the field and in the lab, sled dogs, close-ups of ice crystals, polar bear tracks in the snow, boats in the Seward, Alaska harbor and the land and sea near there, aurora borealis, a bowhead whale skull, a wild polar bear and a taxidermied polar bear, and an arctic fox. NCAR scientists identified include Kirk Ullmann, Sam Hall, John Orlando; Canadian scientists idenitfied include Stoyka Netcheva, Ralf Staebler, and Alexandra (Sandy) Steffen; plus PolarTREC teacher Betsy Wilkening.
