Scope and Contents
A large collection of photos from a test launch of a balloon with its gondola carrying a solar telescope from the National Scientific Ballooning Facility in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. The goal of the Sunrise project is to investigate the structure and dynamics of the Sun's magnetic fields. Photos include close-ups of instruments and equipment, assembly of the gondola components inside a hangar, moving the system outside, launching the balloon, and retreiving the balloon. Individuals identified among the scientists working on the project are Alice Lecinski, Greg Card, Michael Knolker, Jack Fox, and David Elmore.
