Scope and Contents
A collection of photos from the Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment 2 (VORTEX2) field project, which took place from May 10, 2009 to June 15, 2010 on the High Plains of the United States. The collaborative international project, involving scientists from NCAR and a number of other organizations, examined in detail how tornadoes form and the patterns of damage they cause. The findings are expected to improve tornado warnings and shortterm severe weather forecasts.
