UCAR Records
Scope and Contents
The UCAR Records contain materials that document UCAR and NCAR. The collection traces the founding of UCAR from an idea to the birth of a national center. It also documents the merger of the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) with NCAR, the international scope of UCAR/NCAR, the relationship between UCAR and Member Universities, and the relationship of UCAR and the NSF.

Source of Acquisition
UCAR
Method of Acquisition
This is a legacy collection; original box labels indicate the records came to the Archives over several years from different sources, including individual staff members and UCAR presidents. Electronic records were actively collected by the Archives. A series of films was transferred by Zhenya Gallon in 2017 -- this series is restricted to internal use only. An accrual was transferred to the Archives in 2009-2010 when records returned from the offsite records management vendor. This accrual is unprocessed.
Appraisal Information
Routine business records, including travel vouchers, hotel and transportation information, and HR/personnel records, were removed from the collection. Duplicates were also removed.
Processing Information
This collection was processed over several months in 2012. Electronic records from the UCAR Members website were added in 2015 and early materials were converted from HTML to PDF for preservation reasons. The restricted 2017 accrual was processed in 2019.
