After the copyrighting issues of 1986 had been resolved, it was determined to attempt some form of cost recovery for the development and distribution of the NCAR Graphics package. This folder contains internal memos detailing costs related to the development and distribution of the package. Charts detailing package distribution numbers and related cost recovery for Versions 3 and 4 are included.

Scope and Contents This folder contains information about the number of package distributions. A list of all SCD staff involved in NCAR Graphics distributions (sixteen in all) and their functions (as of 06-May-1991) is contained. Distribution data are available from 1987 through 1998. There are charts that break the distributions down into types, such as "generic," "VAX/VMS," and "UNIX." This folder contains internal memos and e-mails concerning decisions about licensing agreements. Also contained are memos and e-mails about support for various systems, costs to print manuals, distribution media used, binary/source issues, and so forth. One takeaway from things in this folder is how many considerations were involved in supporting the package, particularly when cost recovery charging was in effect.

During the time of cost recovery efforts for NCAR Graphics there was a marketing team, called 'The MTEAM' that met on a regular basis to discuss marketing issues. This folder contains notes from someone's personal log from 09-Jun-1992 through 02-May-1995 mainly concerning marketing issues. Other memos to/from MTEAM members are contained, as well as meeting notes.
