This folder contains the document, "FITPACK: A Software Package for Curve and Surface Fitting Employing Splines Under Tension," Version 1.0, September 1987. This package was written by Alan Cline who ultimately expanded the package for commercial sale after he left NCAR. However, we were allowed to include the parts of the package Alan developed while at NCAR and then, years later, Alan gave us permission to include the entire package in our distribution.

Providing point-and-click modification of plots was beyond what the staff could develop, but developing an interpreted interface that would allow for interactive specification of plots (as well as a programmatic interface) was embarked upon in the early 1990s.
